A two-day event to promote Chinese tea culture has been held in Lao capital Vientiane to mark the International Tea Day, with visitors immersed in tea-making demonstrations, tea-tasting experiences, and cultural

performances.

Under the theme "Traditional Chinese tea-making technique and related custom," the event was organized by the China Cultural Center in Laos, collaborated with the Culture and Tourism Department of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The event included a traditional tea ceremony, a tea art performance and other activities.

The event, which was launched last Friday, was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and the Chinese Embassy in Laos.

It drew over 100 representatives of Lao officials, Chinese people in Vientiane, and local residents.

Lao Minister to the Prime Minister's Office Khampheng Saysompheng said that he has learned a lot more about Chinese tea culture, tea technology and tea industry, and hoped that the two sides will continue to deepen the traditional friendship between Laos and China with tea as a carrier in the future.

The United Nations General Assembly in 2019 designated May 21 as the International Tea Day, and "traditional tea processing techniques and associated social practices in China" was added to UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list in 2022.
