India successfully test-fires interceptor missile

India on Wednesday successfully conducted the maiden flight test of Phase-2 Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) interceptor "AD-1 missile", local media reported.

The missile test with

a "large kill altitude bracket" was carried out from Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of the eastern state of Odisha.

"Flight test was carried out with participation of all BMD weapon system elements," reported Asian News International, an Indian news agency.

The missile's strike range is reportedly between 1,000 and 2,000 km.

AD-1 is a long-range interceptor missile designed for both low exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception of long-range ballistic missiles and aircraft, "Times Now" reported.
