Teenager Wang claims maiden ISSF World Cup gold

Eighteen-year-old Chinese shooter Wang Zifei clinched her first ISSF World Cup gold medal by winning the women's 10m air rifle final at the ISSF World

Cup on Monday.

Wang excelled at last year's junior world championships in Lima, Peru, where she claimed gold medals in both the women's and mixed team 10m air rifle events. Her first ISSF World Cup medal was a silver in the women's 10m air rifle at last year's event in Baku.

Wang entered Monday's final in third place after the qualification round, trailing the leader, Kwon Eun-ji of South Korea, by 1.7 points.

In the final, Olympic bronze medalist Audrey Gogniat of Switzerland took an early lead. Wang remained among the top three in the first 10 shots and moved into the lead after the second elimination round by delivering consecutive inner-ten shots. Wang achieved a final score of 254.1 points, just 0.4 points shy of the world record held by her compatriot Huang Yuting.

Kwon took the silver medal with 253.1 points, marking her second World Cup silver. Gogniat claimed the bronze.

The competition continues on Tuesday with the women's 10m air pistol and men's 25m rapid fire pistol finals.
