Children's clothing on display at Shanxi museum

An exhibition of children's clothing in China's modern history (1840-1949), kicked off on Tuesday at the Shanxi Archaeological Museum in Taiyuan, Shanxi province.

The exhibition presents 45 children's clothing exhibits, including

hats, baby bibs, belly belts and shoes with various decorative patterns —auspicious birds and animals that drive away evil spirits, as well as flowers and birds that represent prayers for good fortune and longevity.

"The exhibits present the charm of traditional Chinese folk art in color, shape, craft and pattern," said Zheng Yuan, deputy curator of the museum. "The patterns not only express people's good wishes for their descendants but also contain the inheritance and development of traditional culture."

The exhibition will run until June 30.
