CSL: Shandong hold Shanghai Port in controversial draw

Shandong Taishan drew 1-1 with leaders Shanghai Port, while Chengdu Rongcheng conceded its first league defeat this season at the hands of Beijing Guoan 1-0

in the Chinese Super League (CSL) on Monday.

In its 300th CSL match, Shanghai got several scoring chances in the first half, but they were all denied by Shandong defenders and their goalkeeper.

Shandong went ahead in the 42nd minute through a counterattack, as Liu Binbin threw off Shanghai's defender and passed the ball to Chen Pu to score.

At the beginning of the second half, Marouane Fellaini's powerful header went straight into the corner of the gate, but the goal was disallowed due to his foul on Shanghai defender Zhang Linpeng, which resulted in a bit chaos on the field as the two sides expressed their discontent.

Shanghai got the equalizer in the 74th minute, when Wu Lei's header hit the bar and Li Shenglong seized the chance to send the ball in.

In Beijing's road victory over Chengdu, Brazilian midfielder Souza assisted Nebijan Muhmet to score his maiden goal in the 24th minute. Chengdu put a lot of efforts into offense afterwards, but failed to change its inferior position.

Also on Monday, Changchun Yatai beat Henan FC 3-1, and Shenzhen FC lost to Wuhan Three Towns 3-1.
