According to China's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025), the total production value of China's sports industry is set to hit 5 trillion yuan by 2025 with residents' sports consumption exceeding 2.8 trillion yuan, and more than 8 million people working in the sector.
The number of people participating in outdoor sports nationwide exceeded 400 million by the end of 2021 as more people took interest in popular sports like hiking, marathon, cycling and skiing, GAS data showed.
Public enthusiasm of winter sports heated up with the successful hosting of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics earlier this year.
Taking the event as an opportunity, China will speed up the construction of the Beijing-Zhangjiakou sports and cultural tourism belt in order to lead the development of ice and snow sports in north China, the GAS said in the notice.
