Beijing People's Art Theater cultivates new talent

On April 19, Beijing People's Art Theater announced its latest training program for young actors in the capital.

Twelve applicants stood out from the competition and will receive a year's training

under veteran artists at the established theater.

"The program is vital for the development and the future of the theater. We are excited to welcome these young people," said Feng Yuanzheng, president of the theater and a renowned actor in his own right.

The theater was founded in 1952 and has a large fanbase, putting on productions of classic Chinese plays such as Teahouse and Thunderstorm.

Director Tang Ye will serve as head of the program, and veteran artists such as Feng, Pu Cunxin, Wu Gang and Yue Xiuqing, will teach and share their experiences.

In 2019, the theater launched its first training program for young actors, which attracted hundreds of hopefuls from around the country. After several rounds of auditions, 10 people were selected to participate in the program and now perform in theatrical productions as professionals.

Feng noted the theater will offer young actors opportunities to perform onstage as much as possible, which is a great way for them to advance their skills.
