UN chief condemns DPRK's attempted satellite launch

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres strongly condemns the attempted launch of another military satellite using ballistic missile technology by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK),

said his spokesman on Tuesday.

Any launch by the DPRK using ballistic missile technology is contrary to the relevant Security Council resolutions, said Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman, in a statement.

"The secretary-general reiterates his calls on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to fully comply with its international obligations under all relevant Security Council resolutions and to swiftly return to dialogue without preconditions to achieve the goal of sustainable peace and the complete and verifiable de-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula," said the statement.
