Union rout Argentinos Juniors to reinforce title credentials

Union Santa Fe kept their title aspirations intact with a 3-0 home victory over Argentinos Juniors in Argentina's Primera Division on Monday.

Adrian Balboa struck first-half goals at Estadio 15 de Abril before Nicolas Orsini put the result beyond doubt with a second-half penalty.

The result leaves Union second in the 28-team standings with 22 points from 11 games, a point behind leaders Huracan. Argentinos Juniors are 20th, nine points further back.

In Mendoza, Godoy Cruz continued their resurgent form with a 4-1 home victory over Deportivo Riestra.

Daniel Octavio netted twice while Salomon Rodriguez and Facundo Alejandro were also on target for the hosts. Brian Sanchez scored a late consolation goal for the visitors.

After a poor start to the season, Godoy Cruz have now won four of their past five league fixtures to rise to 14th, ahead of 16th-placed Deportivo Riestra on goal difference.
